Senior Engineer (Competitive Business Unit)

Alternative Jobs

Building a team starts with valuing the team. We hire the best of the best to ensure you’re working with people you can constantly learn from. You’re trusted to get your work done your way while testing the limits of what’s possible and what’s next. We work hard to provide a culture where everyone feels supported, and our employees feel it—their votes helped us become one of Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces in 2023.

We also value sports. Not just because of the big wins and highlight-worthy plays, but because of the lasting impact sports can have: the lifelong lessons in teamwork and dedication; the influence of inspiring mentors; the priceless opportunities to play at the next level. Sports can change lives—that’s what we value.

Our team helps the world see sports differently through products that make it easier to capture video, analyze data, share highlights and do a lot more.

Your Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Competitive business unit. The Competitive BU serves hundreds of thousands of amateur sports teams in North America, including high schools, clubs, youth organizations, and more. We focus on product initiatives that save coaches time and help athletes get noticed across the entire athletic department. On Competitive, you’ll work on some of our most-used products including our video and data analysis tools, recruiting suite, team management workflows, and more.

As a senior software engineer, you’ll work closely with a cross-functional team across engineering, quality assurance, product, design and Scrum disciplines to deliver full-stack web and mobile features. At Hudl, we iterate rapidly and deploy changes to the product hundreds of times a day across our engineering team. In addition to your focus on delivery, you’ll act as the team’s technical leader, breaking down complex engineering problems, championing best practices and guiding others.

Our priority is to hire someone for this role who lives near our office in Lincoln or Omaha, Nebraska, but we're also open to remote candidates who live in the following states: AL, AZ, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NH, NC, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WY.

Must-Haves

  • Experience in mature, full-stack web applications. You have 5+ years experience building across all levels of a web application: from the client-side code, all the way down to the database. You’ll likely be working with technologies like TypeScript, React, GraphQL, C#, MongoDB and a number of AWS services.
  • Technical leadership experience. You’ve led other engineers through substantial product investments. You’re comfortable translating requirements, creating architectural proposals, breaking down work into digestible increments, and guiding other engineers through implementation.
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset. You know building excellent software is a team effort and you’re willing to collaborate with others to get to the best outcome—whether that means providing input in technical discussions, pitching in when a teammate needs a hand, or providing quality feedback in code review.
  • Mentorship mentality. You believe strongly in the multiplier mindset and understand that your own growth is strongly tied to the growth of those around you. You enjoy helping fellow engineers hone their skills in a variety of ways including but not limited to reviewing code, pair programming and documenting key patterns..

Nice-to-Haves

  • Professional background in C#, React, MongoDB and/or AWS. Adjacent languages, frameworks and services used at scale are relevant experience, but direct background in our core technologies is a plus.
  • Experience working with hybrid teams. Our engineering team is spread across the U.S. with people working both in-office and remotely. Your background in working with hybrid or remote teams isn’t a must but it will help you adapt more quickly to Hudl’s culture.

Our Role

  • Champion work-life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
  • Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
  • Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
  • Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech stack and hardware to do your best work.
  • Support your mental and physical health. We care about our employees’ wellbeing. Our Employee Assistance Program, employee resource groups and fitness partner Peerfit have you covered.
  • Cover your medical insurance. We have multiple plans to pick from to ensure you’ll have the coverage you (and your dependents) want, including vision, dental, fertility healthcare and family forming benefits.
  • Contribute to your 401(K). Yep, that’s free money. We’ll match up to 4% of your own contribution.

Inclusion at Hudl

Hudl is an equal opportunity employer. Through our actions, behaviors and attitude, we’ll create an environment where everyone, no matter their differences, feels like they belong.

We offer resources to ensure our employees feel safe bringing their authentic selves to work, including employee resource groups and communities. But we recognize there’s ongoing work to be done, which is why we track our efforts and commitments in annual inclusion reports

We also know imposter syndrome is real and the confidence gap can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates. Please don’t hesitate to apply—we’d love to hear from you.
