About the job

This position is needed to take Twilio’s Phone Number Product line to the next level. You will be part of an experienced team building complex, highly-scalable, highly-available distributed systems that all Twilio products build on top of. Our team has an end-to-end ownership of services and processes that process billions of requests per day. 


In this role, you’ll:

  • Articulate technical vision and architecture for products, analyze existing technologies and make design trade offs.
  • Work with product management to discover and define user stories, write technical blueprints for new products.
  • Help plan and delegate technical work to the team.
  • Strong cross team collaboration and communication skills.
  • Build tools and practices for engineering excellence to elevate the engineering team.
  • Lead and mentor the engineers.
  • Operate services at scale and help debug complex production issues.
  • Build APIs, storage systems, cache layers and complex workflows to support business requirements.
  • Participate in agile development with rapid, iterative, frequently deployed applications.

  • 10 + Experience with technologies like Java, MySQL, Kafka, Redis, AWS Aurora, Terraform.
  • 5 + years of experience in building and operating distributed, event driven systems.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs and restful concepts
  • Strong understanding of event driven asynchronous architectures.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex production issues.
  • Ability to go on-call for the team's services.



  • Experience with Python, php.
  • Experience with workflow technologies like temporal.  
  • Experience with AWS based technologies SQS, Cloud Watch etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science related field.


This role will be remote, and based anywhere in the USA or Canada.
This position is a remote role but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.

Approximately 0% travel is anticipated.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado: $176,080 - $220,100.
  • Based in New York or Washington State: $186,480 - $233,100.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $207,120 - $258,900.
  • This role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan and the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave. 

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
