As the Staff DevOps Engineer II, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of DevOps and infrastructure engineers, and software developers supporting the development lifecycle and operations of the Datto Networking organization. You will lead a team of talented DevOps engineers, and technical leads, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, quality assurance, and support. Your deep expertise in AWS cloud services will be instrumental in guiding the development and implementation of our product roadmap, ensuring high-level security, reliability and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage team in driving cloud initiatives spanning functional areas such as account management and governance, security, cost optimization, modernization, and reliability/performance.
  • Design and implement solutions and patterns in AWS to be leveraged by various product engineering teams.
  • Assist in developing and executing security initiatives (e.g., SSO).
  • Consult and collaborate with development teams to ensure products adhere to cloud best practices.
  • Define and manage individual and team goals, performance evaluations, and career development plans.
  • Collaborate with HR & Talent organizations for recruiting, onboarding and retention of top engineering talent.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts, project updates, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Drive governance initiatives (e.g., IAM SCPs and similar guardrails).
  • Provide guidance and solutions in implementing service availability and performance monitoring.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with infrastructure, product, and security teams.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record of leading and managing devops engineering teams, including coaching and mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a proven ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Ability to interact across functions including business management, product management, executives, support, marketing, sales and other teams.
  • Ability to manage teams and projects across different timezones.
  • At least five years of experience as a DevOps Engineering Manager/Lead.
  • At least five years of experience as a DevOps engineer, and be familiar with the software development life cycle, software testing methodologies, and Agile Development Methodology. 
  • You require minimal supervision, are self-accountable, possess the grit required to lead or execute projects, and can adapt to changing requirements.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting experience, esp. given vague or limited information.
  • Strong focus on security principles and best practices in AWS.
  • Experience architecting solutions and with networking fundamental within AWS.
  • Experience with IaC tooling such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • 3+ years’ experience with core AWS services, including IAM, EC2, S3, RDS, Route53, SSM, Lambda, Organizations, Identity Management, and networking services.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
  • 5+ years’ experience working with common Linux distributions (e.g., Centos, Debian, etc.).

Working knowledge or certification in the following areas are a big plus:

  • AWS Certification
  • AWS Control Tower
  • Databases such as Aurora RDS, MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • Container technologies such as Docker
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling.
  • Object-oriented programming languages such as Java or C#.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or equivalent work experience
