The Role

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our Builder Tools engineering organization with a mission to enable SoFi engineers to elegantly solve problems. In this role, you will have the opportunity to directly impact and influence the direction and architecture of our developer tooling, elevate developer experience, while enabling engineers through foundational systems. You will get the chance to define, and take on complex and interesting problems as part of a fast-paced, highly collaborative organization. The ideal candidate will be a mentor and a team player who is hands-on and comfortable driving solutions from initial architecture to implementation and adoption with a strong sense of ownership and drive for delivery. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Technical leadership - Provide thought leadership towards the technical strategy and guidance on the design, implementation, and operational excellence of our builder tools, observability and reliability platforms.
  • Innovate - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, optimizations and advance the observability, resiliency architecture and tooling.
  • Exemplary Practitioner  - Be a subject matter expert in observability and reliability domains, including operational response and troubleshooting, ensuring timely resolution of issues. Proactively identify and manage risks  in our platforms. Juggle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a results-oriented environment.
  • Mentor - Collaborate with engineers in the team, provide mentorship, and domain expertise to enhance the overall technical capabilities of the team..
  • Continuous Improvement - Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, data-driven decisions and improvements.
  • Collaborate –Build strong working relationships with coworkers and cross-organizational teams.
  • Influence - Implement and influence the adoption of developer tooling and best practices.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years software development experience.
  • Expertise in developer tooling for microservices development in a cloud environment (e.g., AWS)
  • Deep knowledge of observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Elastic, Jaeger), reliability tools and systems (e.g., Locust, Artillery, Gremlin, AWS FIS) and related technologies.
  • Strong problem solving and programming fundamentals (algorithms, data structures).
  • Proven programming skills (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go) delivering large scale systems with infrastructure automation (e.g., Python, Terraform).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with Agile development processes. 
  • Experience with developing CI/CD pipelines and test-automation.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills - must be able to demonstrate an ability to work well with non-technical members of the team, and cross-functional leads.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with security, compliance, and risk management in cloud environments.
  • Experience with container orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and networking
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
