MongoDB is seeking a skilled Senior Cloud Analyst to join the Business Operations & Strategy team. In this role, you will partner with the Engineering, Product & Finance teams to optimize cloud hosting expenses across R&D and the cloud business.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze current and past cloud resource usage across AWS, Azure & GCP to identify optimization and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Improve cost transparency by developing and maintaining monthly cloud hosting expense reporting, showing chargebacks to the respective line of business/cost centers.
  • Develop and maintain guidelines and processes to properly tag cloud resources across all 3 cloud providers (e.g., using cost categories, cost allocation tags, and other tooling).
  • Define requirements & process for alerting when costs are higher than expected within a billing cycle.
  • Develop and align on chargeback and cost allocation methodologies for shared costs.
  • Coordinate Saving Plan, Reserve Instance, Committed Use Discount, on-demand, and spot instance strategy and guidelines across multiple services.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to design and implement cost-saving solutions (e.g. periodically reevaluate CapEx vs. OpEx decisions).
  • Partner with Engineering leads, FP&A & Procurement on budget forecasts, consumption trends, etc.
  • Support cloud provider negotiations, understanding which levers to pull to secure favorable terms and pricing, and anticipating future business needs.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and technologies related to cloud economics.
  • Stay abreast of cloud provider pricing changes and how they impact MongoDB.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field
  • Proven experience in cloud economics, cloud resource optimization, financial analysis, or a related field
  • Experience with cloud computing technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Confidence using SQL for fetching and manipulating data; experience with a scripting language such as Python or R is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to work in a self-guided manner in a distributed team environment
  • [Bonus] Solutions architecture and/or software engineering experience with cloud services
  • [Bonus] Experience defining tagging guidelines and cost allocation models to ensure appropriate categorization of shared cloud costs
  • [Bonus] Experience negotiating multi-year contracts with cloud providers
  • [Bonus] FinOps Certification

Success Measures

  • Within 1 month, get up to speed on your stakeholders’ business objectives and goals, and begin scoping out initiatives to deliver cloud cost savings.
  • Within 2 months, begin developing processes to improve the tracking and observability of cloud costs.
  • Within 3 months, kick-off your first major initiative with input from the technical teams.

Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:
$94,000$184,000 USD
