Site Reliability Engineer (Full-Time Contractor)

At Nerdy, we are seeking a bright Site Reliability Engineer to support our main application.

You will be part of the platform engineering team responsible for developing and operating the core of the company’s main product. As such, you will be ideally placed to make a meaningful impact by helping millions of people learn through the improved reliability of our web platform.

The ideal candidate is technically and cognitively gifted, would relish the opportunity to spearhead the team’s efforts in raising the bar for operational excellence, and would like to have fun in a collaborative environment.

This position is fully remote, with occasional travel for team or company events.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or equivalent (incl. on-call).
• Experience with one or more of the following: Ruby, Go, Python.
• Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems internals and administration or networking.
• Experience with Site Reliability Engineering, System Design, and Distributed Computing.
• Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems, including relational databases.
• Systematic problem-solving approach, with excellent communication skills and a sense of drive.
• Experience with New Relic or, secondarily, a similar observability platform.
• Experience with AWS or, secondarily, Google Cloud Platform.
• A Computer Science degree, similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Improve the reliability of the company’s main web application by proactively preventing incidents/outages from happening.
• Partaking in the team’s on-call rotation schedule.
• Participate in the team’s improvements in our ability to detect incidents faster, triage them more quickly, and resolve them sooner.
• Champion SRE best practices within the team and the Engineering department, and develop tooling to automate repetitive tasks.
• Raise the bar and be a leader within operational excellence by actively contributing to the continuous operational training of the team.
• Contribute to the company’s code bases.
