Position Summary: 

At Pax8, we're on a mission to revolutionize how we use data in our business. With data being one of the biggest drivers, we aim to bring insights to every area of our Product and Engineering division. Creating a more streamlined process and understanding of data and the opportunities it presents will help us improve our overall billing health and standardize our data processes.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in transforming how we perceive and communicate about data. Our Product and Engineering division plays a crucial role in aligning our systems throughout the organization. You will have a unique opportunity to create a streamlined understanding and process for how we view and communicate about data. One of the first initiatives you will participate in is the creation of our first business data dictionary. Through automation and DBT (Data Build Tool), you will develop essential analytics and reporting systems related to our billing system. Using rapid prototyping, this will enhance and streamline feature observation within these systems. You'll be a key player in our mission to revolutionize how we use data and make a lasting impact on our company.

To succeed and dive in headfirst, you must have a strong understanding and experience working within data systems from a Software Engineering perspective. This requires strong development skills in Python. Knowing Java and Kotlin will also be beneficial, as they are the foundation of our product. The data environment will consist of various sources, with the primary one being RedShift, which you should have experience working with. You should also have experience working with technical and business teams, making you comfortable defining and writing data terms that can be easily understood by all audiences within a data dictionary, to understand the steps required to create one.

Essential Responsibilities and Percentage of Time Spent (includes, but is not limited to):

  1. Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software (65%)
  2. Participate in team meetings including grooming sessions, project planning, and other aspects of the agile development lifecycle (20%)
  3. Help level up the team through mentorship and design techniques (10%)
  4. Participate in on-call rotations (5%)

Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

  • At least five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant software development experience
  • Ability to show advanced proficiency of a relevant programming language (Python, Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, and/or Go)
  • Effective technical leadership abilities
  • Advanced experience with one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, and/or Go).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with innovative application design and implementation
  • Effective problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to step up to address difficult issues, saying what needs to be said
  • Ability to develop people to meet both their career goals and the organization’s goals
  • Ability to operate effectively, even when things are not certain, or the way forward is not clear
  • Ability to make sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems
  • Ability to actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development challenges

Required Education & Certifications:

B.A./B.S. in related field or equivalent work experience

Compensation:

  • Qualified candidates can expect a salary beginning at $140,000 or more depending on experience

*Note: Compensation is benchmarked on local Denver Metro area market rates. Qualified candidates in other locations can expect a salary package that may be adjusted based off applicable cost of wages in their respective location.
