We’re looking for a seasoned Data Scientist - Business Analytics to drive and support decision-making for our business teams. This role will be leveraging the rich data captured over a hundred million learners and thousands of instructors engaging  on the platform to deliver innovative, data-driven insights on how to create experiences that will better meet the needs and expectations of learners. This role will be dedicated to support segment General Managers (GMs) and functional leaders in effectively managing and optimizing our business performance. Our ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, business acumen, and the ability to translate analysis into actionable recommendations that drive business growth and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Design visualizations for monitoring KPIs and surfacing key trends.
  • Create self-serve tools for diagnosing the root cause of performance in KPIs.
  • Develop an understanding of Coursera’s products, business, and learners to tie analysis to actionable recommendations.
  • Assess performance against targets and benchmarks, highlighting areas of concern or opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide actionable insights and strategic recommendations based on data analysis to enhance business decision-making.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis to address specific business questions or issues as they arise.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Background in applied math, computer science, statistics, or a related technical field
  • 4+ years of experience using data to advise product or business teams
  • 2+ years of experience as a business analytics DS or similar role, with a strong track record of data analysis and business insights generation
  • Advanced proficiency in BI tools (e.g. Looker, Tableau, Power BI) and a willingness to learn Looker
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data findings into actionable insights.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong SQL skills, proficiency with at least one scripting language (e.g. Python), and at least one statistical software package (e.g. R, NumPy/SciPy/Pandas)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the educational technology sector, specifically with platforms like Coursera, will be considered an advantage
  • Experience with orchestration tools including Airflow and DBT
  • Excellent customer service / stakeholder management skills
