As a Senior BI Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining the Business Intelligence for the BI & Analytics that's build on top of our Data as a Service (DaaS) Platform. Your experience and expertise in BI engineering will ensure the success of the BI & Analytics platform. The BI & Analytics platforms enables Backbase's customers financial institutions, businesses and retail customers with cutting-edge analytics tools that transform data into actionable insights, driving informed decision-making and enhancing customer experiences. You are expected to develop, maintain and test BI & Analytics solutions on Microsoft PowerBI. More concrete, with your extensive knowledge about DAX and typescript you'll create robust and user-friendly PowerBI (custom) visuals, reports and dashboards for financial institutions and their customers businesses and retail customers, offering comprehensive insights into key financial and operational KPIs. You'll be working closely with the Backbase Data Team. Furthermore, you'll help us continuously innovate our analytics solutions, staying ahead of technological advancements and evolving customer needs.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field

• 5+ years of experience in BI engineering, preferably in PowerBI

• Deep understanding of data domains, regulations, and compliance requirements

• Strong leadership and project management skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

• Excellent in analytical thinking and translating data into informative visuals and reports

• Experience in the financial industry is a pre.

Role Competencies:

Knowledge & Application

• Experience with the following software/tools

  • Microsoft Power BI Certifications PL-300 (Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate) or extensive experience

  • Azure Synapse / Data Bricks / Fabric (e.g. version control, Git)

  • DAX and Power Query (M)

  • Typescript to create custom visuals

  • Have a good understanding of application security layer models in Power BI

  • SQL / SQL Server tools (SSMS, SSRS etc.) - Experience with Power BI 3rd Party tooling
    Experience with Data preparation and Data modelling, Certification DP-203 (Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure) is a pre.

  • Different Microsoft Azure data products (Data Warehouse, Databricks, Synapse etc.)

  • Understand Kimball modelling techniques

Complexity & Problem Solving

• Developing new and existing Power BI visual reports, dashboards and KPI scorecards using Power BI desktop for thousands of users

• Translating business requirements to technical implementations

• Connecting to data sources, importing data and transforming data for Business Intelligence

• Administering, supporting, monitoring, tuning and patching the Power BI reporting environment
  Performance tuning the data models and data flows

• Performance tuning the data models and data flows

• Applying Kimball modelling techniques

• Implement row level security (RLS) on data

• Ensuring right people get access to the sensitive data in reports through proper security and access management

Collaboration & Interaction

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, analysts, product managers, and developers to ensure seamless integration of BI engineering solutions within the organization's ecosystem.

• Develop and maintain documentation, including data dictionaries to ensure stakeholders have a clear understanding of BI engineering processes and systems.

• Continuously gather stakeholder feedback to refine and improve BI engineering solutions, ensuring they remain aligned with evolving business needs.
