Guild is hiring a Backend Engineer II to join our innovative engineering team. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing and building APIs, developing new features, and ensuring the scalability and reliability of our systems as we grow. Our tech stack includes TypeScript, Python, Postgres, GraphQL, and AWS—while experience with these tools is a plus, we welcome engineers who bring expertise in other languages, databases, and API protocols.

In this role, you’ll be part of our Payments domain, a crucial team responsible for managing all monetary transactions within the Guild ecosystem, ensuring seamless payment facilitation between learners, employer partners, and education partners. Given the financial nature of this domain, accuracy and reliability are crucial. We’re seeking an engineer who will help us deliver high-quality software with a forward-thinking mindset, ready to bring fresh ideas that will elevate our systems and help us fulfill Guild’s mission.

As a Backend Engineer II, you will:

  • Design and implement new services and infrastructure that prioritize simplicity, scalability, and reliability.
  • Write clean, understandable, and testable code.
  • Collaborate and share knowledge with your team, offering feedback and fostering an environment of growth.
  • Proactively identify and suggest improvements to existing processes and systems.
  • Deliver projects on time, ensuring accountability to both your team and stakeholders.

What we’re looking for:

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in backend languages such as TypeScript or Python.
  • Experience with database technologies like PostgreSQL or DynamoDB.
  • Strong understanding of building APIs, data modeling, testing (unit/integration), and CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with cloud services, preferably AWS.
  • A curious, innovative approach to technology, always eager to experiment and learn.
  • Passion for education and alignment with Guild’s mission.

Preferred Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with TypeScript, AWS (particularly Lambdas), and GraphQL are all a plus.

We feel passionately about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a base salary range of $135,000-$153,750, as well as company stock options.
