Position Summary:
As a Sr. Software Engineer II at Pax8, you'll embark on an exciting journey to design, develop, and enhance cutting-edge software that transforms our users' experiences. Your technical leadership will chart the course for projects from inception to deployment, ensuring they meet deadlines and exceed expectations. By leading the charge on the Opportunity Explorer feature, you'll shape partner recommendations and drive impactful sales opportunities, building trust and creating significant value for our partners.
Every day, you'll dive into the dynamic world of backend development, focusing on innovating and refining the Opportunity Explorer feature within the Pax8 Platform. Your adventure will see you working primarily with Kotlin and microservices for these feature builds that we host within our AWS environment. You'll team up with our data wizards to visualize information in inventive ways, participate in spirited design and code reviews, and immerse yourself in swarming and pair programming sessions. This role is not just about coding; it's about strategizing, mentoring, and ensuring that the team reaches new heights together.
To thrive in this role, you must have a solid foundation in software engineering with a specialization in backend development. Proficiency in Kotlin and microservices is essential. You'll navigate a landscape of both new and established technologies, so a curious and exploratory mindset is highly valued. You should excel at designing and implementing complex features independently while seamlessly collaborating with other teams. Strong problem-solving abilities and the skill to navigate technical challenges are crucial. Additionally, you should have experience mentoring and guiding fellow engineers and be comfortable with collaborative programming practices. Essential Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software
- Participate in team meetings including grooming sessions, project planning, and other aspects of the agile development lifecycle. Act as technical expert and advise junior developers on industry best practice
- Act as technical liaison to product development team and advise product management on best technical paths to solve business problems
- Help level up the team through mentorship and design techniques
- Participate in on call rotations
Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:
- At least seven (7) years of relevant software development experience
- Advanced proficiency of a relevant programming language (Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, Go, and/or Python)
- Effective technical leadership abilities
- Ability to raise the technical bar for how we develop complex, scalable, and reliable systems
- Proven experience working with distributed, highly available systems
- Proficiency in a technical stack from infrastructure to application code
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with innovative application design and implementation
- Effective problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to step up to address difficult issues, saying what needs to be said
- Ability to actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development challenges

Required Education & Certifications:
- B.A./B.S. in related field or equivalent work experience
Compensation:
- Qualified candidates can expect a salary beginning at $155,000 or more depending on experience
