About the Role 

Data Scientists are the people who bring excellence from empirical and computer science to life to drive the iterative product development lifecycle. They embed within teams they support, achieving a marriage of minds with their stakeholders and an integration of objectives and workflows of. They work across the team with UX researchers, feature engineers, domain experts and business, product, and marketing managers, to create data about user behaviors, discover unmet needs, set metrics that measure performance and design & execute experiments to generate learnings and evidence their success (or lack thereof). Where needed, they leverage machine learning methods as the basis of even deeper insights, uncovering patterns in user behavior that the human mind simply cannot process (e.g. through unsupervised learning).

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist with a focus on our chef & food portfolio to join our small but mighty team. In this role, you'll play a pivotal role in advancing our Food Portfolio team's capabilities, applying scientific rigor to inform, strategize, and optimize our already high performing menu.

What you’ll do in 12 months

  • Cook up the insights needed to build our food supply around the needs of our current and future eaters. Work directly with food leadership to generate deep insights that leverage our rich dataset (customer preferences, order behavior, and engagement data) to inform our portfolio strategies and our assortment roadmap. Develop metric and conceptual frameworks to guide food supply decisions and answer critical questions such as: How many new items a week do we need on the menu? What is the optimal cuisine coverage for the long-term retention impact? Success will be measured by the deep understanding of our eaters' behaviors you enable throughout the organization, from our kitchens to our investors.
  • Introduce scientific food innovation and chef expansion capabilities: Establish a data-led framework to optimize chef additions, menu updates, and cuisine variety that enables a scientific food innovation team. Overlay the food innovation roadmap with ML models and experiments to help predict success and opportunity-size our innovations, so we can optimize for both Eaters' happiness and our long term financial performance: What chefs and meals should we add next? What kind of cuisine creators are pivotal for customer satisfaction? Success will be measured by total incremental uplift of the food innovation funnel (incl the impact of food innovations on user long term retention)
  • Build an experimentation-led capability that accelerates our food innovation into our marketplace. Structure processes and success metric frameworks to support rapid food innovation cycles. Implement online and offline testing methodologies to validate new product lines, menu rotations, and market impacts. E.g. What was the incrementality of adding Breakfast to the menu? What is the optimal rotation of our menu each week? What is the impact of new product lines on our business, eater behaviors, and long-term retention? Success will be measured by the time to learn, build confidence and evidence to support full market launch decisions. 
  • Be valued member of the Food & Portfolio teams: Offer a fresh perspective to old problems by challenging past assumptions and constraints or reframing perspectives to find possibilities Participate in every stage of development from ideation, analysis, proof of concept to putting into production with engineering best practices. 

Core Competencies

  • High autonomy in partnering with non technical stakeholders 
  • HIgh autonomy in executing to produce insights with data (e.g. SQL, Tableau, Python, dbt)
  • High agency and growth mindset

Year of experience

  • 7-10 years in similar analyst roles, with a pattern of high achievement
  • 2 years in a food innovation or food marketplace team (in any capacity but ideally)

Compensation

All final pay rates will be determined by candidates experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
Pay Range for this position
$160,000$175,000 USD
