About the job

This position is needed to help Twilo architect, implement and deliver new capabilities in the Twilio Flex platform. You will be the senior most technical member of a scrum team who will create usable, maintainable, and durable web applications, design, build, own and operate their microservices end to end in the cloud. You will play a key role in setting up and building out the Flex engineering capacity and capability in the Bengauluru office and build a center of excellence for Flex business unit. You be responsible for tackling some of the most complex and exciting technical problems in the industry, you will be working across the product scope based on priority needs and work directly with others to provide advice and guidance on implementation approach, lead cross-team technical discussions, build relationships across architecture and engineering to resolve bottlenecks and provide the best production solution. Additionally, you will influence roadmap priorities, propose innovative solutions that will enable Twilio to achieve its goal of being the world’s most trusted customer engagement platform.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Architect, design, develop, test and deploy Flex features and services in AWS cloud.
  • Own reliability of your services, respond to incidents and participate in on-call rotation and conduct RCAs for incidents.
  • Drive a team culture to meet SLA/SLO/SLI for your services.
  • Work with peer Principal Engineers,  Architects and Product Managers and decompose high level requirements into granular user stories.
  • Drive a team culture to meet Definition of Done for the software team builds.
  • Identify, Prioritize, refactor and reduce technical debt in your services.
  • Write automated unit and integration tests in a continuous integration and delivery environment.
  • Manage your work through the use of Github, Jira, and Twilio’s build/deploy systems.
  • Actively participate and lead Design, Code review, Backlog grooming, Agile ceremonies and work with team members and peers to meet team’s sprint commitments.
  • Work independently to troubleshoot/determine resolution for issues in your team's domain.
  • Be responsible for documentation of projects you work on.
  • Think strategically with an eye towards the future while being able to plot a course from the present.
  • Make critical decisions on high level technical strategy and set direction for a group of disparate engineers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment while continuously evaluating emerging technologies.
  • Take ideas from many different sources and guide a group towards consensus.
  • Ask questions when something doesn’t make sense, and take ownership of initiatives in an organized fashion.
  • Rapidly acquire new technical skills and knowledge in a fast-paced, highly disruptive industry environment.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, and positively influence their learning and growth.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related industry experience.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience, developing and maintaining high traffic, interactive, desktop-class web applications.
  • Working knowledge of architectural patterns for building mature services, especially for real time, distributed and multi-regional deployments based on microservices architecture.
  • Experience with UI technologies and Micro Frontend implementation - JavaScript, React, Angular.
  • Experience setting architectural direction for large scale, user facing web UI applications.
  • Experience with plug-in architectures in client-side applications.
  • Experience with releasing open-source JavaScript libraries via npm.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP or other public cloud infrastructure platforms.
  • Experience with container technologies - Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Extensive experience with REST API design and implementation.
  • Experience with browser APIs (REST, GraphQL, GRPC, and Protobuf) and optimizing front end performance.
  • Experience implementing modern automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Translate architecture vision into concrete system designs.
  • Champion of good engineering habits: development and test techniques, security, automation.
  • Strong expertise in solving complex production issues. 
  • Iterative development and deployment, Scrum and Agile methodologies.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Influence and build effective working relationships with all levels of the organization.

Desired:

  • Experience with streaming systems such as Kafka, Flink, Spark.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and caches.
  • Experience with Contact Center and Customer Engagement solutions.

Location

This role will be located in our Bengaluru, India office. Approximately 5% travel is anticipated.
