About the job

This position is needed to help Twilio meet our reliability goals by providing systems, tools and processes to reduce self-inflicted incidents and their impacts across Twilio. 

The Resilience team is focussed on empowering teams to validate their services through isolated testing, strengthening test coverage, measurable code quality improvements, and promoting communities of practice across Twilio engineering teams.

We are  looking for a growth-oriented seasoned engineer who is passionate about building resilience into systems. As an SRE Lead for the team you will provide technical leadership, vision and mentorship to help the team design, deliver and support the above goals. You will be responsible for identifying present and future scalability, reliability and quality gaps, building solutions and tools to fill those gaps as well as empowering teams to establish a culture of testing at Twilio.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Provide engineering leadership and ensure our team is solving critical engineering problems that enable Twilio products to be scalable, resilient and reliable.
  • Collaborate with engineering managers and tech leads, enabling them to create and deliver critical new products, systems and/or features that align with our strategic objectives for Reliability.
  • Design, guide and implement the testing strategies and well as tooling and automation to be used by R&D teams at Twilio for Reliability initiatives.
  • Compose, review and edit your own team as well as peer team’s architectural Blueprints
  • Keep the SRE team aligned with Twilio’s needs, company-wide and advocate for best practices and new technologies in the Twilio engineering organization.
  • Assist with on-call duties to support any services, automation and tools we create.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years of Engineering and SRE experience 
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience as a technical leader mentoring and providing leadership to engineering teams
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining reliable and resilient production systems at scale.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and services, especially AWS
  • Strong foundations of Linux servers and networking
  • Strong opinions on proven practices for testing strategies.
  • Proven track record in building internal automation 
  • Proficient with Java and Python
  • Excellent collaborator, ability to foster alignment cross-functionally and cross-organizationally
  • Excellent communication skills. Able to distill key takeaways quickly, able to document and diagram design requirements

Desired:

  • Experience building test automation frameworks and systems.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as code, specifically Terraform.

Location 

This role will be in EMEA (Dublin, Ireland)
