Job Summary:
- The Lead DevOps Engineer will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of our AWS-based infrastructure and DevOps processes for a Java SaaS product.
- This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership, guiding a team of engineers to optimize deployment, scalability, and reliability.
- The ideal candidate is a Java-savvy DevOps expert with deep AWS experience and a passion for automating everything.
Key Responsibilities:
- Infrastructure Management: Architect, deploy, and manage AWS infrastructure (e.g., EC2, ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3) to support a Java-based SaaS application.
- CI/CD Leadership: Design and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline to streamline Java application deployments.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of DevOps engineers, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
- Automation: Drive automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize system performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency in AWS, leveraging Java profiling and AWS services (e.g., CloudWatch, Elastic Beanstalk).
- Security: Implement and enforce security best practices (e.g., IAM roles, VPC configurations, encryption) to protect the SaaS platform and customer data.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Java developers, QA teams, and product managers to ensure seamless integration and delivery of features.
- Incident Response: Lead troubleshooting and resolution of production issues, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime (e.g., using AWS X-Ray, ELB).
- Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of infrastructure, processes, and runbooks for the team and stakeholders.
- Innovation: Stay ahead of AWS and DevOps trends, recommending new tools or services to enhance the platform (e.g., EKS, Fargate).
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
- 5+ years in DevOps or systems engineering, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role.
- 5+ years working with AWS cloud environments, ideally supporting SaaS products.
- 3+ years of experience with Java-based applications (e.g., Spring Boot, Maven, Gradle).
Technical Expertise:
- Expertise in AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, etc.).
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, AWS CodeBuild/CodeDeploy).
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with containerization (Docker, ECS, Kubernetes) and microservices architectures.
- Familiarity with Java build tools and runtime environments (e.g., Tomcat, JVM tuning).
- Knowledge of monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana) and logging (ELK, Splunk).
Certifications (Preferred):
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect, or similar.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.
