About the job
Secret Management is composed of the Secret Manager and Key Management System products. They allow our customers to safely store & access their secrets as well as manage and use their encryption keys. You will be responsible for all the technical production of these products, and you will be working with our dedicated Product Manager.
As an Engineering Manager, you will have a dual role, overseeing both your team of engineers and the general engineering aspects. This position requires a balanced combination of managerial and technical skills, with teams utilizing Agile and Scrum methodologies.
Your responsibilities include managing administrative tasks for the team, enhancing individual members' skills, optimizing team performance, and collaborating with other teams and managers to address technical requirements. You will actively engage in the internal workings of secret and key management systems, predominantly using Golang as the main programming language. Additionally, you will play a role in coding, reviews, handling customer escalations, and managing product infrastructure, emphasizing a user-centric and pragmatic approach to problem-solving. Your overarching role is to facilitate the team's focus by coordinating with other managers in the company.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience as a Go Developer
- Knowledge about encryption related technologies
- Knowledge of cloud ecosystems
- Experience with agile software development practices
- Patience, good at explaining, and great listening skills
- Good command of English
Responsibilities
- Embody the activities of Engineering within the company, and within your team
- Hire, manage, support and develop a team (career path, salary and compensation, personal knowledge and skills improvement)
- Build innovative features for our products on the latest technologies with the help of your team
- Coordinate the team, monitor the progression of ongoing projects, organize the teamâs work (using Agile methodologies)
- Make suggestions to balance the team's workload between technical debt management, rollouts, and new projects
- Strong collaboration with our Product Managers & Marketing teams in order to help the team to do the ârightâ things (the âwhyâ, then the âwhatâ and finally the âhowâ)
- Be a messenger, both up & downstream to help the team be aligned with the company objectives and make sure that the teamâs voice is heard
- Monitor and optimize team velocity and its capacity to deliver quality products and services on time
- Ease collaboration with other Engineering teams
- Stay grounded by coding as a âdoerâ with your team
- Work on transversal initiatives within Scalewayâs Engineering Manager Guild

Location
Based in our offices in Paris or Lille (France), partial remote is possible. We offer three days of remote work and two days on-site.
