About the job

As a DevOps Engineer on our Infrastructure Engineering team you will be playing a crucial part in ensuring engineers at Twilio deliver software quickly, confidently, and with high quality. You will be building solutions to enable our engineers to develop, test, deploy and observe their applications through tooling and automation. We do this by leveraging technologies like AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Buildkite, Chef, and modern GitOps methodologies, either through building our own services or contributing to open source projects. In this role, you will apply your passion for automation to build and evolve our developer ecosystem.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Promote passionate DevOps culture that is driving massively scalable, highly reliable, resilient services in a fast growing customer and engineering focused company
  • Contribute to systems that evolve and improve CI/CD processes
  • Help resolve technical issues/blockers as an engineer on the team
  • Identify and qualify new tooling and approaches from internal and external sources to increase productivity in software development at Twilio.
  • Perform thorough and thoughtful code reviews to help maintain high standard of code quality
  • Work with teams across the company to troubleshoot/determine resolution for complex issues
  • Develop tools and automation which eliminate manual activities, increase stability, and improve visibility
  • Develop monitoring, telemetry, and diagnostics to early-detect and minimize quality of service impacting events
  • Be creative, take your own initiative and solve some of our most challenging problems

Required:

  • 2+ years building and maintaining AWS infrastructure (EC2, ELB, VPC, IAM, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, etc)
  • Experience with scripting languages (Golang, Python, or Bash)
  • Previous exposure to some of the following solution; CI/CD Systems (Buildkite, Argo CD, Jenkins, Travis, etc.), Artifact Repositories (Artifactory, Yum, Docker Registry)
  • Experience with Linux & Docker required
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes
  • Experience with source code management solutions
  • Experience delivering software using Containers
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, etc.)
  • Experience running production infrastructure and services
  • A tenacious learner, curious and constantly pushing the boundary of what is possible
  • Self Driven; take complete ownership of your tasks and champion efforts to get your tasks to completion
  • Strong customer focus, enabling fellow engineers to efficiently operate on our platform
  • Diligent mentality, robust sense of responsibility/accountability, and strong verbal/written communication, documentation, and collaboration skills

Desired:

  • Experience with Golang
  • Experience with ReactJS/TypeScript
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Helm

Location

This role will be based in our Denver office or remote in the US and Canada (Vancouver and Toronto areas).

Please note this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado, California, New York, and Washington. The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado: $109,280 - $136,600.
  • Based in New York or Washington State: $115,760 - $144,700.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $128,560 - 160,700.
  • This role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan and the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
