ABOUT THE TEAM

You’ll work as part of the back end “Data Analytics, Audit and AI team” (DA3).  We’re a small team, and work with a large amount of freedom both as a team and individually, so you’ll need to thrive on autonomy.  We also enjoy experimenting with and learning new ways to solve complex problems with creative solutions.  Bluescape uses DevOps, so our engineers need to be comfortable throughout the entire development workflow, from clearly articulating design intentions, learning new libraries, experimenting, writing and testing code, and finally writing the infrastructure code to deploy the resulting components.

The DA3 team works with TypeScript, Python, Bash scripts, SQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Redis, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Metabase, and Tableau, and we are now building search capabilities with Apache Solr.  While we value experience and an excitement for learning and sharing more than a detailed knowledge of specific technologies, we also require you to hit the ground running with TypeScript, Python and ideally Apache Solr too.

Bluescape enables remote collaboration, and the entire DA3 team works remotely across the continent.  While this is a remote work job, we require candidates based in Canada or the USA.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Help us implement our customer search roadmap with Apache Solr.
• Experiment with new tools and approaches for solving problems.
• Design, document, code, test, and review deliverables with the team.
• Be aware of trends in the software industry and identify technologies to help solve our data, analytics, and AI problems.
• Help us implement rules-based, machine learning, and NLP models that can be trained and run inside isolated environments.
• Be willing to help not just with the exciting tasks, but also the more mundane but just as critical tasks that keep data and analytics working for Bluescape and our customers.
• Must have a strong customer and team focus, world-class quality, and effective communication with a focus on decisive, fast-moving solutions, quick and constructive resolutions to conflicts, and a “no barriers” mentality.
• Serve as an evangelist for the team and overall culture, both internally and externally.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS  

• We need somebody that can immediately start programming in TypeScript and Python, quickly helping us implement our customer search Apache Solr based search roadmap.
• Creative problem solving and working closely with the team is an absolute must.
• Experience with many of the various technologies the DA3 team uses.
• Experience in building machine learning and natural language processing solutions, preferably with spaCy and PyTorch.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-based systems such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience developing solutions with Apache Solr would be a definite asset.
• Batchelor’s degree in Computer Science or another technical field.
