Team Description

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team at Pendo is responsible for provisioning and maintaining cloud infrastructure from development through production for all product initiatives, and working with developers and product managers to ensure that our products are not only reliable and performant, but also cost-efficient. Our platform is built on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and utilizes several other Google technologies such as Memorystore, Cloud Datastore, PubSub, Cloud Functions, BigQuery, and Vertex AI, as well as services from other vendors such as Amazon SES.

In the development process, SREs provide developers with stable and performant CI and release pipelines and development environments to facilitate frequent delivery of new product features. In production, SREs perform Tier 1 on-call and incident management functions, supporting a high-throughput platform which processes more than 35 billion events per day. To ensure the reliability of this environment for our customers, SREs work closely with developers and product managers to understand service level objectives, think through failures scenarios, and design systems which balance cost with reliability objectives. Additionally, SREs collaborate with the Information Security team to ensure that cloud infrastructure is properly secured, and that sufficient controls are in place to meet our compliance goals with respect to industry standards such as SOC 2.

Role Responsibilities

Write high-quality infrastructure-as-code that automates the provisioning, deployment, scaling, and monitoring of Pendo’s infrastructure to ensure that it is reliable and performant
Write maintainable code for product functionality with a primary emphasis on operations, scale, resiliency, and monitoring
Work with other engineers to ensure that new services are well-designed, properly monitored and have well-defined SLIs and achievable SLOs

Own AI solutions end-to-end: problem definition, prompt design, production deployment, monitoring, and iteration — you ship, you watch, you improve.
Build and manage GTM workflow automations that reduce manual work across Sales, Marketing, and Customer Engineering systems, including Slackbots and other integrations.

The Pendo for Agents team builds Pendo's AI and agent product area, a large greenfield surface where much of the architecture is being defined as the team builds. This team is focused on AI-powered features that turn raw usage signals into automatic, actionable suggestions, reducing the manual work customers need to do before they can get value from Pendo.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help shape and ship intelligent product experiences from discovery through delivery. You will work full-stack with a lean toward frontend, using TypeScript, Vue.js, backend services, and AI coding tools to build high-quality features on a small, fast-moving team. This role also owns product judgment: validating problems with customers, sizing opportunities, defining success metrics, and making pragmatic tradeoffs in ambiguous spaces.

This role is based in our Sheffield office.

What this looks like day-to-day

AI-powered feature delivery: Build and ship features that use AI to turn product usage data into actionable suggestions for customers. You will work end to end across the experience, with attention to quality, usability, and the unique failure modes of AI-backed products.
Full-stack engineering: Own delivery across the frontend and backend, with a strong lean toward TypeScript, Vue.js, DOM-level work, component architecture, and in-browser data capture. You will reason about backend services and APIs while building polished, reliable customer-facing experiences.
Product discovery: Help validate problems, shape scope, and test direction before and while building. You will join customer calls, test prototypes, and use real feedback to make sure the team is solving meaningful problems.
Success metrics and iteration: Define what success looks like for the features you build and use product usage data to guide iteration. You will not just close tickets; you will measure whether the work is creating the intended customer impact.
AI-enabled development: Use AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code as a core part of your daily workflow. You will apply strong engineering judgment, review rigor, and accountability to AI-generated code just as you would to your own.
AI product quality: Ship AI-backed features with careful attention to latency, hallucination, inconsistent output, and user trust. You will help ensure intelligent experiences are useful, understandable, and reliable for customers.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work directly with product, design, and fellow engineers in a small team where ownership and leverage matter. You will help make pragmatic tradeoffs against ambiguous, fast-moving requirements instead of waiting for a fully defined spec.
Engineering standards: Raise the quality of the team through code review, mentorship, and unblocking teammates. You will communicate clearly, share context, and help others grow while keeping delivery moving.

Must-haves

Hands-on experience building with LLMs and AI agents, whether through production work or personal projects. You have built something with these technologies, not just used them as tools.
Full-stack engineering experience with a frontend lean, including strong TypeScript skills, comfort working with the DOM, and the ability to reason about backend services.
3+ years of experience building and scaling web applications.
Strong product judgment, including comfort owning ambiguous problems, shaping scope, and making decisions without a fully specified brief.
Experience defining success metrics for a feature and iterating based on real usage data.
Experience engaging directly with customers or end users to validate problems and assess impact after launch.
Strong grasp of software architecture, design principles, and API development.
Clear communication skills and the ability to mentor others, unblock teammates, and support the growth of the engineering team.

Nice-to-haves

Experience working as, or closely alongside, a product manager, including writing specs, prioritizing a roadmap, or running discovery.
Familiarity with product analytics tools such as Pendo, Amplitude, or Mixpanel to measure feature impact.
Experience designing or running experiments, including A/B tests or betas, to validate product decisions.
Experience with browser DOM inspection or automation.
Familiarity with Model Context Protocol or building tools for LLM agents.
Familiarity with real-time data pipelines or streaming architectures.

Compensation: The expected salary range for this role to be performed in Sheffield, United Kingdom is £60,000 - £78,000.
