In this role, you will:

Drive AI Product Development in Risk: You’ll help shape the architecture and implementation of AI-powered risk systems—from application approvals to ongoing and enhanced due diligence—turning messy, ambiguous signals into clear outcomes.

You should have:

5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in Payments or Risk.
Agentic AI expertise—you’ve built and launched applied Agentic AI products that have had strong business impact, shipping them from 0→1 and scaling 1→10 in production environments.
Proven success building large-scale distributed systems, ideally involving 3rd party integrations and decision automation.

When the Space Shuttle approached the International Space Station, two vehicles built by different teams, in different countries, with fundamentally different engineering philosophies and systems, had to connect perfectly. The Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) subsystems were engineered to handle complex mismatches such as different power systems, communication protocols, and technical architectures. Get it wrong, and you have an expensive and potentially catastrophic problem in low Earth orbit.

Mercury announced on December 19, 2025 that we submitted an application to the OCC for a national bank charter and applied for FDIC deposit insurance. In other words, Mercury is building a bank. As part of this work, we will be connecting our modern, product-focused engineering systems to enterprise core banking systems and payment networks built in a different era, with different assumptions and different interfaces. Mercury’s Banking Integration Platform as a Service team is like NASA’s RPOD team, building our integration subsystems that are technically correct and operationally trustworthy.

This is some of the most consequential infrastructure work at Mercury. Every account opening, every monetary transaction, and every balance call will flow through the systems you build. Product teams across the company will depend on clean abstractions that hide the complexity underneath. You'll be one of the few engineers at Mercury who truly understands the full depth of our Bank Core* and all its internal and external integrations.

In this role, you will:

Build Mercury’s integration with an FFIEC-approved bank core and the connections to payment networks.
Design internal APIs that give product teams simple, consistent interfaces to complex external systems.
Handle the messy realities of enterprise integrations such as retries, failures, format mismatches, and downtime.
Build data pipelines that keep Mercury's systems in sync with our bank core.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead this team. It's not working properly. The car is one of the most powerful ever built. But drivers describe it as terrifyingly unstable… \"a monster\". Despite this, Porsche runs it in Le Mans to disastrous results. One of the cars crashes on lap one, ending in tragedy for its driver. All other 917s break down in the race.

Enter John Wyer, a British race engineer, whom the factory calls upon for help. After a long day of testing, John recognizes a lack of smashed bugs on the rear wing and deduces that the wing is not working properly. The team modifies the design to be more upward swept and the 917K takes on a new winning character. It wins LeMans outright in 1970 and goes on to be the most successful race car design of the 70s. Stability, it turns out, was the missing ingredient.

This team supports Go-To-Market functions across Finance, Marketing, and Sales, drives growth product experimentation across activation and conversion, and partners on core product experiences like Spend, Expense Management, and Invoicing.

Build and operate the real-time inference service that scores models for the risk decision engine, with low latency and high availability as first-class requirements
Own model deployment infrastructure — registry and versioning, CI/CD with performance, bias, and consistency checks, shadow mode, and staged rollouts

When the Space Shuttle approached the International Space Station, two vehicles built by different teams, in different countries, with fundamentally different engineering philosophies and systems, had to connect perfectly. The Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) subsystems were engineered to handle complex mismatches such as different power systems, communication protocols, and technical architectures. Mercury announced on December 19, 2025 that we submitted an application to the OCC for a national bank charter and applied for FDIC deposit insurance. Mercury is seeking a Data & AI Governance leader to build and spearhead an enterprise-wide governance program for data and artificial intelligence. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, this leader will establish practical standards for how data and AI are owned, developed, used, protected, and monitored across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines strong governance and risk-management experience with sufficient technical fluency to work effectively with Data, Engineering, Product, Information Security, Legal, Compliance, and business teams. This person should be comfortable building in a fast-moving environment and designing governance that supports responsible innovation without creating unnecessary complexity.

This role will work closely with the Model Risk Management and Information Security teams while maintaining a distinct mandate: Data & AI Governance will establish enterprise governance and responsible-use standards, while Model Risk Management will retain responsibility for model inventory, tiering, validation, and model-risk oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement Mercury’s enterprise Data and AI Governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating model.
Establish clear accountability for data ownership, stewardship, quality, lineage, classification, access, retention, and appropriate use.
Create a risk-based governance process for AI use cases across their lifecycle, including intake, assessment, approval, implementation, monitoring, and retirement.
Develop responsible-AI principles and standards addressing transparency, explainability, fairness, privacy, security, human oversight, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Maintain an enterprise inventory of material data assets, AI use cases, and related governance decisions in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
Define risk-based classifications and governance requirements based on the sensitivity, complexity, materiality, and customer or regulatory impact of each use case.
Establish governance for internally developed, vendor-provided, and embedded AI capabilities, including generative AI.
Partner with various Product, Engineering, Data, and business teams to embed governance requirements into development and change-management processes.
Coordinate with Model Risk Management to determine when an AI use case meets the definition of a model and is subject to model-risk requirements.
Partner with Information Security and Technology Risk on data protection, cybersecurity, access, architecture, resilience, and technology-control considerations.

Qualifications:

10+ years of relevant experience in data governance, AI governance, technology risk, information governance, model risk, privacy, compliance, or a related discipline.
