Even if you might not meet every requirement, we strongly encourage you to apply. You might just be the right candidate for us.

We are looking for a Tech Lead & Manager (TLM) for a team of expert compiler engineers building our ML compiler for deploying machine learning models on to a variety of ML hardware accelerators. You & your team will develop and enhance Cruise's internal ML compiler for high performance, usability, and retargetability by leveraging open-source technology like MLIR and LLVM.

The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) software stack heavily relies on machine learning to perform a variety of critical tasks. Throughout the life-cycle of each machine learning model, we collaborate with skilled ML engineers to optimize the models for compute and power-efficient inferencing on Cruise's on-car ML hardware accelerators.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead a team of ML compiler experts to build a production-grade Cruise customized ML compiler for Autonomous Vehicle compute platforms.
  • Be your team's primary point of contact for aligning your team's scope, roadmap, and priority with partners, stakeholders, customers, leadership, and third-party vendors.
  • Take the lead in identifying and pursuing new paths of inquiry in compiler development and discovering novel applications of compiler technology within Cruise.
  • Influence foundational compiler architecture decisions and strategy.
  • Lead the team in developing high-level ML compiler optimizations like operator fusion, memory planning, and layout optimization.
  • Build out the compiler backend for the different on-car ML accelerators.
  • Build performance tooling to evaluate, understand and improve ML performance on different accelerators.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams of AV engineers to influence our ML strategy and provide requirements for hardware vendors.
  • Follow industry and academic developments in the ML compiler domain and provide performance guidelines and standard methodologies for other engineers.

What you must have

  • 6+ years of experience in the field of compiler design (preferably ML compiler) and 2+ years of experience managing high performance teams.
  • Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and software stack (e.g., MLIR, XLA, TVM, TensorRT, etc).
  • Expertise in writing production-quality C++ code.
  • Expertise in the software development life-cycle - coding, debugging, optimization, testing, integration.
  • MS, or higher degree, in CS/CE/EE, or equivalent, in industry experience.

Bonus points!

  • Compiler backend experience - CPU, DSP, GPU, Neural Accelerator etc.
  • SIMD programming (avx2, neon)
  • Experience with ML accelerators and hardware architecture
  • Familiarity with parallelization techniques for ML acceleration
  • GPU programming (CUDA) and familiarity with ML SW stack (e.g., cuDNN, cuBLAS)

The salary range for this position is $144,800 - $212,800. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
