About the Work

• Decompose system and subsystem requirements into module level requirements. Examples of module level requirements are perception recall and precision requirements for various object types in various ranges, localization pose error requirements, allowed error by controls for failovers. 
• Work closely with SWEs, TLs, and Product Managers to review and recommend changes to module level eval such that meeting the module requirements will maximize chances of meeting the validation gates for deployment. For example, allowed performance of prediction eval in close proximity VRUs or allowed rate of incorrect context maps for traffic lights.
• Work closely with simulation engineers to ensure high fidelity, appropriate tools to evaluate the performance of various modules and their interaction with one another (Are we testing the right metrics in the right way?). For example, recommending changes to simulation latency models in LS
• Recommend coverage of test suites for module level eval, including ensuring the realism and relevance of proposed tests. For example, verifying if synthetic scenes created for collisions observed in hidden miles capture the relevant module’s failure mode with sufficient variation but without compromising the specificity of the scene 
• Prepare intra or inter-module budgets for metrics like latency and pose so that the total system budget is maintained by appropriate decomposition into module responsibilities
• Support SOTIF and fault management analysis at the module level and serve as a Systems POC to SW for your assigned modules
• Work closely with Robots HW and Operations safety to quantify the impact of changes in their modules on HW or Ops, or vice versa. For example, requirements for using a changed camera for deployment (Entron), introduction of ABS on R2, unexpected faults on the wheel speed sensors
• Work closely HW systems engineering to enable the next generation of robots be ready for autonomy and operations

About You

1. Deep understanding of how robotic systems work and ability to leverage this knowledge to build tooling and infrastructure to evaluate them
2. Experience working deeply on at least one core autonomy module: localization, perception, prediction, motion planning and controls
3. Hands on experience in systems engineering (safety experience is NOT required)
4. Ability to read Code in C++ and write Code in Python
5. Strong communication skills - both verbal and written
6. 10+ years of technical work experience in a relevant area, of which 6 or so years at least should be in robotics SW.

At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected pay range is between $183,825.00 and $275,975.00 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
