About the role
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Collective team, you will make direct contributions to our codebase, lead and drive initiatives in product development, and help monitor and grow the team through technical mentoring and decision making. Ideal candidates have experience as a senior-level contributor, guiding the development of multi-month and multi-quarter initiatives in both greenfield and brownfield environments with technologies relevant to our stack.
Responsibilities
- Drive the team's project trajectory by staying informed about their progress, offering input, conducting architectural assessments, and contributing to critical decision-making as needed
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of software engineers by lending technical guidance and solutions to blockers, performing code reviews, and developing recommended best practices in order to continually improve workflows and up-level the team
- Own and implement substantial projects characterized by crucial and/or exceptionally intricate business demands by taking a direct and hands-on approach
- Develop top-notch and reliable software using Python, Django, React, and other relevant languages and frameworks
- Partner cross-functionally with a variety of internal teams such as Product, Design, and other engineering or business counterparts to translate high-level business requirements into products and features that our users will love
- Ensure timely delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary, and highly visible projects by participating in the full development cycle: technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch
What we want you to bring
- At least 9 years experience working on a Software Engineering team with relevant technologies and methodologies.
- Deep knowledge of or specialization in one or more relevant technologies in our stack:
- Less + Semantic UI
- React + MobX
- Django + DRF
- Celery or other task frameworks
- Postgres + Redis
- Heroku
- Salesforce
- Experience working collaboratively with cross functional teams and various stakeholders across an organization.
- Experience coordinating other Engineers through the delivery of a complex software project, including maintenance.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional partners and drive projects from specification to implementation.
- A coaching and growth mindset open to getting and giving feedback and constantly improving yourself and others.
- A strong sense of ownership of and responsibility for your work and that of the team.
- An ability to be adaptable to an ever changing and fast-paced environment.
Preferred requirements
- Experience on a team that controlled their own infrastructure, deployments, release schedules and bug triage.
- Experience with an early stage or growth stage startup.
