About the Team

The Performance Engineering team works across multiple layers of infrastructure, backend services, and applications to ensure that our systems provide a responsive user experience and utilize resources efficiently. We build tools to support other engineering teams, collect data to identify performance bottlenecks, and build solutions to address them.

About the Role

As an early member of this new and growing team, you’ll report into a Senior Manager/Director and have the opportunity to help define the vision and strategy, identify the most promising areas for improvement, and work independently to tackle performance challenges wherever they arise for our Performance team, within our infrastructure organization.. You’ll utilize your expertise with a range of technologies and systems, and learn new ones as well.

Once our office reopens we expect this role to be 100% remote

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Consult with teams across all of Doordash on how to improve the performance of their services and apps
  • Build frameworks, libraries, and observability tools to help engineers conform to best practices and understand why their systems are behaving the way they are
  • Gain a breadth and depth of knowledge in how complex distributed systems work (and fail), from the kernel and network layer, the JVM, up to the code our teams are directly writing
  • Consider who this person will collaborate with, their first 30-60-90 days and beyond, and example projects

We’re excited about you because…

  •  A broad generalist technical skill set. This role will at times involve everything from front end and mobile to virtual machines and everything in between
  • Working knowledge of distributed systems, distributed tracing
  • Familiarity with performance analysis, benchmarking, and optimization
  • Ability to partner and collaborate with a variety of teams working with different technology stacks
  • Ability to be an organizational champion for performance, raising awareness and advocating for continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and common data science tools
