About the job

This data platform will be a differentiator for Twilions and our customers.

In order to realize our goal of allowing our users to easily discover, understand, trust and transform data no matter where it lives within Twilio, you will provide guidance around software architecture and technical decisions for teams that run these platforms with high availability and at a very large scale.  We run Kafka, Elasticsearch, Spark, a Hudi-based data lake, Presto, ETL tools, low-latency data stores, multiple data warehouses and a data catalog. As a critical and strategic thought leader, in partnership with engineering teams and product management, you will design our next generation data lake. You will bring your technical expertise to solve difficult problems around end-to-end data reliability and data discovery. You will also work with the AI teams to help them be successful in their mission.

  • You become the go-to technical expert in one or more of Kafka, Spark, Presto, Query processing, Datalakes, Data Warehouses
  • You are passionate about engineering hygiene and operational excellence. You thrive when operating in broad scope, from conception through continuous operation of 24x7 services to defined SLAs.
  • You are a strategic thinker as it relates to scale and removing humans from the loop.
  • You have the ability to balance long-term objectives with urgent short-term needs
  • You demonstrate the ability to design complex systems in an iterative manner
  • You are a mentor to junior engineers and you effectively represent our teams at broader cross-functional meetings
