GRAIL is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Staff Scientist to join our Translational Bioinformatics team working within GRAIL’s Research division. You will play a key role in cancer detection, disease and treatment response monitoring as well as in characterizing disease biology, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes across the continuum of cancer treatment. You will work with diverse teams including research, clinical, software, operations, product development, and external collaborators to develop new diagnostic products for oncology drug discovery and translational research. You’ll report to the Senior Director of Translational Bioinformatics team.
GRAIL is headquartered in Menlo Park California. This position enjoys a hybrid environment in which employees will be onsite 2 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Lead team projects and conduct bioinformatics analyses to solve complex scientific problems with significant functional impact
- Define strategic direction and analysis plans to drive innovative research projects internally or externally and/or improve products, infrastructure, or processes
- Provide technical leadership to a technical area or a product development workstream
- Collaborate across teams and disciplines to solve problems and act as a trusted cross-functional partner
- Lead and contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, technical reports, and internal knowledge sharing activities to disseminate research findings and promote scientific excellence within the organization
- Mentor junior members of the team
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. with 8+ years experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field, including at least 2+ years industry experience, with background in oncology and experience in drug discovery and/or translational research
- Strong technical skills, proficient in R or Python programming, solid understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning techniques (regression, classification, clustering, survival analysis, longitudinal modeling)
- Expert knowledge in the analysis and interpretation of at least one of the following data types: genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, or proteomic data
- Clear, positive, and proactive communicator in verbal and written communications
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex biomedical projects with internal and external dependencies
- Mastery of working collaboratively under tight deadlines and balancing the needs of multiple key stakeholders
- Results-oriented: superb follow-through, drive, and creative problem-solving
The estimated, full-time, annual base pay scale for this position is $200,000 - $230,000. Actual base pay will consider skills, experience, and location.
Based on the role, colleagues may be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan tied to company and individual performance, or an incentive plan. We also offer a long-term incentive plan to align company and colleague success over time.
