OpenTofu is an Open Source infrastructure as code tool that lets you define both cloud and on-prem resources in human-readable configuration files that you can version, reuse, and share. You can then use a consistent workflow to provision and manage all of your infrastructure throughout its lifecycle.
OpenTofu's development is community-based, it’s governance is rooted in community involvement. Pull requests are evaluated and accepted based on their merit and value to the community, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment where developers can confidently contribute and use the tool.
The role is a full-time Harness role. The successful candidate will be dedicated to working as part of the wider OpenTofu team external to the Harness company.

About the role
Work collaboratively with the open source community to design and implement innovative new features at the frontier of devops tooling.
Help maintain and improve the quality of our codebase, infrastructure, and documentation.
Review and provide feedback on pull requests from the community and team member.
Design, develop, deploy, and maintain critical software in a fast-paced, quality, conscious Java environment.
Author software functional specifications and design documents for features developed.
Quickly understand complex systems/code and own key pieces of the system, including the delivered quality.
Work in an agile environment, using iterative development cycles and a short customer feedback loo.p
Design and implementation of scalable backend software solutions
Diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems in a distributed computing environment.
Perform peer reviews of specifications, design, and code
Quickly understand complex systems/code and own key pieces of the system, including the delivered quality
Work alongside Site Reliability Engineers/DevOps and cross-functional teams to deploy software or diagnose/troubleshoot any production-related issues
About you
You have 7+ years of experience developing highly scalable, distributed applications, products, and backend services, with strong Golang experience.
Has extensive Terraform experience. You have directly authored plenty of Terraform modules, you've operated Terraform in prod and can speak from your years of experience, and you're excited to use OpenTofu.
Has a passion for DevOps best practices. You're passionate about the best way to run modern cloud infrastructure in a secure, convenient, and enjoyable way.
Ability to self-motivate and manage workload.
Strong communication - is essential when working with the virtual OpenTofu team and with the broader OpenTofu Community.
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
Experience working in short-release cycle.
