As a Senior Product Insights Analyst, you will be responsible for delivering high quality data analysis and insights to enable fast decision making and assist in the strategic design of products. You will be able to frame up the questions to answer, identify critical data points and apply analytical methods to produce insights which tell a clear, concise story to help your internal stakeholders solve problems. Your analysis will span our end-to-end customer journeys, across multiple systems, platforms and channels.

We’re looking for someone that can hit the ground running and work with stakeholders across all levels of the business, from developers to leaders. You’ll work closely with the existing analysts that support these teams to build a strong data-driven culture in the teams. You will have proven technical and practical skills in the analytics domain and confidently lead analytical initiatives and mentor our eager to learn analysts. 

What you'll do...

  • Be a trusted adviser to a product team or portfolio area, helping them to identify key business questions and finding ways to answer those questions with data.
  • Define problems and scope solutions for your work, understanding the business context of the work as well as the broader strategic direction of the product and company.
  • You will get the opportunity to lead initiatives that span multiple portfolios, and identify opportunities for strategic work which aligns with our company priorities.
  • Proactively collaborate on cross-portfolio activities that further our business objectives and influence the prioritisation of strategic-level initiatives.
  • You will understand the flow of data from the product to your analysis, and work to make this data accessible and meaningful. Where gaps in data exist, you will proactively identify approaches for filling these gaps.
  • Provide leadership in approaches to creating metrics and data models, and produce metrics and models which enable  a portfolio to improve their  core understanding of their customers & product,  and enhance their decision-making.
  • Contribute to our library of analytical tools by building tools and processes which are used by other analysts to enhance their work.
  • Draw on both specialist and generalist knowledge to derive insights from data. Research and apply techniques from the wider analytics discipline as required, including a range of advanced statistical techniques.
  • Be consulted as an expert on one or more advanced analytical techniques (for example developing A/B testing best-practices or regression toolkits) and coach other analysts on deriving insights from data.

What you'll bring...

  • Applied skills
  • Advanced  skills with SQL and applied experience, R or Python.
  • A solid foundation of statistical knowledge with experience  in applying statistical techniques to achieve business outcomes (eg. predictive analytics, A/B testing, clustering).
  • Can productively contribute to innovation and problem-solving, and can independently deliver core tasks.
  • Shows an aptitude to independently learn new skills and technologies, and solve problems.A passion for sharing knowledge, along with mentoring and coaching analysts. Skills delivering analytics in the form of visualisations and interactive dashboards.
  • Familiarity with modern business intelligence software.
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics, Firebase, BigQuery or Mixpanel is a plus.

  • Has broad familiarity with Xero's product, our customers, and the data we collect, and deeper knowledge in one or more product areas. Is a confident user of the different platforms and tools we use for accessing data.
  • Positively contributes to team culture. Acts to upskill others in your areas of expertise and can mentor junior staff. Can apply organisational strategy to your own work, and has a strong commercial mindset.
  • Exhibits ownership in stakeholder engagements and is able to build relationships in the organisation.
  • Can handle context switching and prioritisation in consultation with others.
  • Confident building relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, to create strong connections and opportunities to collaborate.
  • We are not looking for a specific degree, we’re looking for a logical thinker who can break down a problem, but you may have a statistics, mathematics or computer science background
