Senior Performance Software Engineer - Avatar

As a Senior Software Engineer on our Game Engine team, you will have an immediate impact on the building blocks of Roblox itself. The software you build is a very large application that empowers our global community of 2M+ developers to push the boundaries of interactive gaming. Your work will touch every part of the engine, from threading and memory management to physics and scripting. If you enjoy working on C++ software alongside experienced and passionate engineers, you will be right at home. You will be part of a new Avatar Performance team comprised of both new and experienced Roblox engineers who are looking to push the needle and make our avatars look and perform better than ever before while reporting to the Engineering Manager. We have many interesting challenges to solve across a platform that is continuously growing. This is a high impact team pushing for important objectives for us in the next couple of years. You will have many growth opportunities as the team grows.

You Will:

• Develop engine code that performs well for all user-created games on the Roblox platform
• Develop and run performance benchmarking tests on different avatars systems across multiple platforms, collect data, and analyze results
• Specify performance improvements, plan, and implement architectural changes to boost our performance and help improve the player experience as we push to the next level visuals and functionality
• Work deep in engine code, writing system levels functionality including graphics and tools
• Work with the community and developers to help address their needs for performance and guide the platform towards larger scale and lower end devices and platform
• Improve scripting, memory management, bootstrapping, and other fundamental layers of the Roblox engine
• Work on every application Roblox develops, from mobile phone clients to cloud-based servers

You Have:

• 5+ years experience working on deep and challenging problems in complex C++ codebases with an understanding of 3D rendering, computer vision, and graphics.
• Systems-level expereince with pointers, templates, and raw blocks of memory a
• The ability to jump with ease between Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, and other platforms
• Experience with build systems that work and keep on working reliably
• Curiosity to learn and stay up-to-date on technology developments
