The Who, What, Why and Where

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager in the Segment Cloud group, you will help us build and manage the core events ingestion and processing pipeline that handles 1T events per month and growing. You’ll be working with an incredibly talented team of senior engineers and product leads across the company to build the platform that is at the heart of Twilio Segment.

Who?

Twilio is looking for a leader who lives the Twilio Magic and has a demonstrated track record of working in a fast paced and iterative environment. They also have:

  • 3+ years of experience as Technical Lead or Manager of a healthy and high-performing engineering team(s).
  • Experience managing an engineering team(s) on large-scale projects with technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and/or storage
  • Have hands-on experience in operating event-based systems (e.g. Kafka) capable of processing millions of events per second and petabytes of data each month
  • Experience building and operating large-scale, distributed systems on top of cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ownership over critical problem areas.
  • CS, EE or CE degree and/or a demonstrable, solid understanding of CS fundamentals
  • Demonstrably effective communicator — in spoken and written forms.

  • WRITE IT DOWN: Collaborate on roadmaps with Product Managers and Tech Leads to ensure the team has clear direction and priorities. Ensure there is cross-training and a healthy balance between features and technical debt.
  • RUTHLESSLY PRIORITIZE: Serve as the team’s Scrum Master, breaking down roadblocks as well as managing communications with partners and dependent teams. Create a culture of continuous improvement through retrospection.
  • DON’T SETTLE: Act as an ambassador for Segment, recruiting and motivating top talent.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado: $176,080 - $220,100.
  • Based in New York or Washington State: $186,480 - $233,100.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $207,120 - $258,900.
  • This role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan and the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave. 

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
