Senior Localization Engineer

About the Role: 

This Localization Engineer role is responsible for supporting localization and pose estimation function of operating a fully autonomous truck, including but not limited to managing and coordinating development, task and project planning as well as individual contribution to localization and mapping algorithms.   The candidate should possess sufficient background domain knowledge regarding localization and mapping, such as state-of-the-art probabilistic methods, SLAM algorithms and deep learning algorithms.

What You Will Do:

• Manage and coordinate algorithm development initiatives
• Be self-sufficient and motivated to solve difficult problems
• Mentor and manage direct report, and assess their performances and goals
• Formulate ill-defined problems with data driven approach for self-driving truck solutions
• Able to work independently with minimum supervision and deliver  high-quality and reliable code for real-time application in a timely manner
• Collaborate with other teams to conduct integration and tests

What You Will Need:

• Minimum 6 years of applicable work experience
• Strong coding skills in C++ and optionally python
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree is required for this role, master degree or above preferred
• Ability to work at TuSimple’s San Diego Headquarters at least three days per week. 
• Solid knowledge and proven practical experience in one or more of the following fields:
  • Sensor fusion
  • Optimization
  • Probabilistic methods
• Practical experience in processing large-scale and real-world data

What Will Set You Apart:

• Master’s Degree  or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Machine learning or other related fields is preferred. 
• Publications  in related conferences or/and journals preferred.
