The Job

As Sr. Engineering Manager, reporting to the VP or Director of Engineering, you will own recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and measuring your team and their output, and you will work with the larger Engineering Management team to evangelize the department internally and externally in spoken and written forms. You will recruit excellent candidates and help to bring them on board. You will bring great people management instincts to the team and focus on our engineer’s professional growth. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering and management background – with a drive to get results. They will enjoy working cross-functionally with our team of web and mobile engineers as well as with our product and design teams to deliver great software to production. You will have a reputation as a strong evangelist and a trusted advocate for team members you have managed in the past. 

Your Responsibilities 

  • You will manage a team of software engineers and support them in their day-to-day work
  • You may also serve as a Lead - either focus on delivering prioritized work from build to release, or focus on research, feasibility, and architecting solutions that feed into the delivery process.
  • You will help recruit new engineering candidates 
  • You’ll be a key member of the Engineering Management team and bring new ideas about organizational development, scaling teams, improving processes, etc.
  • You will help write articles for the engineering blog
  • You’ll occasionally attend meetups or conferences to network and evangelize the team

Requirements: 

  • 5+ years managing engineers in a department that is at least 20 people overall
  • 4+ years managing 4 or more people at the same time
  • 3+ years recruiting and closing engineering candidates
  • 1+ years promoting your engineering work - whether it’s teams, individuals or the product
  • Demonstrated record of mentoring and coaching engineers to improve their skills and level up
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills
  • Clear and deep understanding of how to build engineering teams that build high-quality products
