SUMMARY
The Platform Engineer will play a hands-on role in developing and supporting technical virtualization, management, and resource optimization within VK’s product portfolio. The role will assist in the vision, design, and overall strategy to guide the delivery and evolution of VK’s VMware Cloud on AWS, running applications across vSphere-based cloud environments on dedicated, elastic, bare-metal infrastructure. The Platform Engineer will collaborate directly with solution architects to understand our clients’ needs and design a flexible, modern, and innovative architecture providing intuitive, scalable, and adaptable solutions to future use cases. Furthermore, this role will assist software engineering with feature design, product designers and engineers with prototyping, and the product operations team with tool selection, configuration, and administration. And, will support software engineering teams by providing administration and optimization of the systems and tools which enhance their respective missions. You will play a key role on the VK DevOps team, and report to the VP of Technical Operations.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mange the VMware environment for VK’s product portfolio in collaboration with the Product Operations team, ensuring VK’s virtualization stance remains forward-thinking, agile, extensible, and focused on creating essential outcomes for our clients to augment the VK business
- Build, install, patch, and maintain, which encompasses hardware, server, and virtual machines
- Develop and deploy VMware best practices and procedures
- Participate in virtualization design and engineering work, coordinating across multiple software engineering and product operations teams
- Assist in collecting, analyzing, and understanding requirements
- Assist in the scope and sizing estimates for virtualization initiatives
- Provide technical leadership and guidance, influencing cross-functional stakeholders
- Play a key role to optimize the performance and scalability of our VMware platform
- Recommend network and platform technology enhancements to improve network performance, security, and sustainability
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 3 - 5 years of applicable experience
- VMware vSphere 6.x and 7.x
- VMware Horizon
- VMware DRS for Compute and Storage
- VMware Life Cycle Management for OS compliance
- Windows PowerShell for VMware, including VMware PowerCLI
- Experience in OS command line scripting for Linux (Bash, Shell, etc) and Windows PowerShell or Linux shell on Windows
- Experience with Firewalls, Load Balancers, and VMware
- Troubleshoot LAN /WAN issues including third party provider’s solutions
- Experience with system migrations and related automation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to deliver the message to the targeted audience, both technical and non-technical
- This position requires that the candidate selected must be a U.S. Citizen, and have the ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. DoD Top Secret Clearance
- This will be a hybrid position based in Northeast Ohio requiring a combination of onsite and remote work
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience with delivery of commercial Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) products
- VMWare Certifications
- Experience with product delivery methodologies, especially Agile development
- Familiarity with Design Thinking principles and solution-based approaches to solving issues
