We’re searching for an Associate Map Operations Specialist to join Aurora’s Map Production team. 

Members of the Map Production team are experts in Aurora’s mapping policies, processes, and tools. They are primarily responsible for expanding and maintaining HD semantic maps using proprietary tools. This knowledge serves as the foundation for individuals to take on additional responsibilities in handling complex map issues, process improvements, workflow training, technical documentation, project management, and geospatial analysis to support mapping strategies.

In this role, you will

  • Learn to use proprietary software to annotate maps for self-driving vehicles and machine learning model training
  • Demonstrate expertise in internal mapping tools, standard operating procedures, and policies
  • Strive to meet weekly performance goals across multiple workflows including map annotation, issue reviews, and ad hoc tasks
  • Independently manage workload by staying aligned with team priorities and proactively seek clarity
  • Collaborate across Product, Operations, and Engineering teams to share tool feedback, process improvement ideas, need for policy clarifications, and project updates
  • Maintain accuracy and usefulness of knowledge materials and jira tickets
  • Embrace a growth mindset to improve professionalism and communication skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Geographic Information Systems or related field, or 2+ years of professional work experience in tech in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to work in Mountain View, CA or Pittsburgh, PA office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
  • Ability to work with the one of following shift schedules (Monday–Friday):
    • Shift hours vary by location and are as follows:
      • Pittsburgh, PA: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM ET or 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM ET
      • Mountain View, CA: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM PT or 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM PT
  • Ability to work with software tools with flashing lights, flickering, and strobe effects
  • Demonstrated spatial problem solving or critical thinking skills
  • Self-starter with ability to own problems and proactively seek solutions
  • Strong communication skills, articulate thoughts in clear written and verbal forms
  • Highly attentive to details with the ability to multitask throughout the day

Desirable Qualifications 

  • Professional work experience in HD mapping or data annotation
  • Experience working with mapping software (i.e. ArcGIS, ArcMap, QGIS) in a professional or academic setting
  • Previous experience working on an Operations team at a tech or AV company
  • Experience working with data and collaboration tools like Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, and BI tools (e.g. Mode, Looker, etc.)
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment with software engineering teams
  • Experience working with Command Line Interface (CLI)
  • Experience creating process or training documentation

#Entry-Level

The hourly range for this position is $32.25 - $42.25 per hour.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
