IT Security Engineer - Intern

We’re looking for security-minded (or security-curious) interns to join our IT Security team and help us defend a large-scale, fast-paced environment. With thousands of endpoints under management, hundreds of cloud applications, and a suite of security tools—from endpoint protection to SIEM and vulnerability management—you’ll get hands-on experience tackling real-world security challenges. As an intern, you’ll collect, aggregate, visualize, and analyze threat and vulnerability data, investigate alerts, and collaborate with seasoned security engineers on projects that bolster our defenses. You’ll play a key role in strengthening our security posture and gain exposure to critical areas of cybersecurity, all while contributing to meaningful improvements that protect our organization and its data.

What You’ll Do:

• Join a Dedicated IT Security Team: Work side by side with security engineers protecting an environment that includes over 7,000 endpoints, hundreds of SaaS platforms, and a wide range of security tools.
• Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with other technical and business stakeholders to identify security gaps and design automated solutions that meet the company’s needs at scale.
• Advance Zero-Trust Principles: Contribute to building and securing a zero-trust network that strengthens our overall security posture.
• Automation & Scripting: Write scripts (e.g. Python, Bash) to automate security tasks, streamline response workflows, and improve efficiency.
• Develop & Refine Security Detections: Create and tune rules to uncover malicious activity and stay one step ahead of evolving threats.
• Respond to Security Incidents: Assist in investigating alerts, containing threats, and implementing post-incident improvements across our IT infrastructure, all while gaining hands-on experience with an industry-leading SIEM platform.
• Grow Your Skill Set: Learn from experienced engineers through mentorship opportunities, hands-on projects, and real-world exposure to cutting-edge security technologies.

Who You Are:

• You are targeting a 2026 full-time start date
• You are in the process of receiving/have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field; or have equivalent experience
• You have strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, software design, operating systems, networking to name a few) 
• You have taken classes or have done individual projects that are security focused or adjacent, and are curious to learn more about it
• You are comfortable coding in one or more programming languages 
• You are familiar and get excited about building and deploying systems at scale
• You want to explore areas of security as a potential area you want to work in full-time
• You are a self-starter who enjoys partnering with other engineers and solving difficult problems 
• You are available to work full-time from the Datadog New York office from May 12, 2025 - August 15, 2025; May 12, 2025 - August 22, 2025; or June 2, 2025 - August 22, 2025
