Job description:
This role focuses on ensuring that Linux-based systems and infrastructure adhere to relevant security standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
We are seeking a mid-level Linux Engineer to deliver Dedicated/cloud engineering services to Rackspace’s clients and typically assist with the daily operations, monitoring, hardening and documentation of compliance efforts related to Linux environments.
Responsibilities:
Implement and monitor security controls: configuring and implementing security measures/vulnerability assessments to identify potential security issues and ensure compliance on Linux systems.
Support compliance audits and reporting: preparing for internal and external audits by gathering documentation, generating reports on system configurations and compliance status, and responding to audit requests.
Contribute to the creation and upkeep of security policies, procedures specific to Linux environments, ensuring alignment with relevant compliance frameworks (e.g. CIS Benchmark, NIST, PCI DSS).
Implement hardening and maintaining environments: using configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible) to streamline security configuration and reduce human error.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for Linux systems, security controls, and compliance-related procedures.
Required skills and qualifications:
Strong Linux administration skills: Proficiency in various Linux distributions and command-line tools.
Scripting and automation: Experience with scripting languages like Bash and/or Python for automating security tasks and system administration.
Knowledge of, or experience working with DevOps tools like Git, Ansible, Jenkins (basic), etc.
Knowledge of, or experience working with, at least one cloud platform including AWS, Azure, or GCP technologies/environments.
Networking fundamentals: Understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP) and firewall configurations.
Security awareness: Knowledge of security concepts, best practices, and familiarity with security frameworks like SE Linux or Armor tool.
Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and propose solutions.
Communication skills: Effective written and verbal communication for collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders, documenting processes, and creating reports.
Attention to detail: Meticulousness in following procedures, reviewing configurations, and maintaining accurate documentation.
Educational background:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
Preferred qualifications:
Relevant certifications like RHCSA, RHCE and familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP).
