Xero Small Business Insights (XSBI) uses aggregated, anonymised data to generate insights about the small business economy. XSBI enables Xero to champion on behalf of small business by showcasing trends, challenges and opportunities evidenced from our data. This provides a valuable source of timely data for economists, policy makers and governments seeking to better the lives of small businesses globally.
The XSBI team is a small team of data enthusiasts based in Melbourne who are passionate about using insights to drive positive change for small businesses.
You’ll work within the Global XSBI team to understand data quality, undertake data collection, perform data analysis and identify areas of opportunity for future improvements. You will work across a number of exciting projects to deliver information and compelling insights in an accessible and unambiguous way.
This is an exciting and unique role, providing many opportunities to learn and grow as the XSBI brand scales globally.
What you’ll do
- Build, execute and maintain our data pipelines and reporting tools to deliver XSBI insights
- Identify, drive and deliver initiatives to streamline, optimise and/or automate our pipeline, reporting tools and processes in a new analytics environment
- Identify, investigate and partner with others to solve data and/or process issues
- Undertake exploratory research using internally and externally available data

- Shapes and undertakes data processes so that they’re repeatable, scalable, and well documented, while strictly adhering to Xero’s data processes and standards, such as understanding data lineage and handling Personal Identifiable Information.
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor of Computer Science or relevant qualification2-3 years of professional experience in an Analytics Engineering/Data Engineer role
- Advanced SQL skills
- Experienced with programming in PythonHistory of designing and building pipelines following engineering principles and version control (DBT experience is desirable)
- Strong analytical skills at the macro and micro level, including handling personal and identifiable information
- Practical experience with analytic engines (Snowflake is desirable), orchestration tools (Airflow/Prefect experience is desirable), notebook environments (Jupyter/Zeppelin) and reporting tools (Microstrategy is desirable)
- Clear and concise oral and written communication, including technical documentation
