Data Platforms Engineering @ Xero

The Data team at Xero plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of collaborative, data-driven decision-making, impacting not only our internal teams but also our diverse, global community of small business owners, bookkeepers, and accountants. Our work involves crafting, overseeing, and delivering a broad spectrum of data services. These range from essential reporting and key data sets to advanced, scalable solutions in analytical data processing, storage, machine learning, and API-driven predictive services.

In this role, you will be more than just a technical expert; you'll be a valued leader within our collaborative engineering team. Your contributions will be key in developing new data capabilities and services, and in enhancing our existing solutions and practices. What you will do:

  • Actively lead and mentor teams of engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasises knowledge sharing and collective problem-solving
  • Work with product and engineering teams to enable greater data literacy, and optimise performance, throughput and quality within their solutions
  • Work with teams throughout Xero to help create the solutions, platforms, and integrations required to bring Xero’s data to life
  • Collaborate with architecture and engineering leaders to define, design and build data solutions and platforms. Lead small teams to implement these solutions, ensuring timely and successful delivery
  • Lead by example, by being a dedicated to automation, documentation, and collaboration at all stages of the engineering workflow, including improving existing solutions or proposing
  • Lead initiatives that help drive continuous improvements to data quality, standards, principles and procedures, including a consistent approach to how data quality is measured, monitored and reported

What we look for in an Engineering Manager:

  • Extensive practical experience in leading people in delivery and guiding them through their career
  • Expert data and technical background demonstrating innovation, initiative and a passion for data
  • The ability to lead multiple teams of engineers in delivery of end-to-end solutions
  • Confidence in collecting, collating and interpreting business requirements in order to produce quality outcomes
  • Possess robust problem solving skills
  • Extensive practical experience in engineering data for the purpose of data analytics
  • Expert level skills in - large scale data integration and data management
  • Experience in streaming and real-time processing
