About the role
We are seeking a Director of Data Management and Governance to establish and own the function within our organization. This is a founding role that will be pivotal in shaping and implementing robust data management and governance frameworks, and ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of our data. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading both the technical and cross-functional leadership aspects of data management and governance.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $198,990 and up to $281,900. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to
- Define the vision, goals, roadmap and overall strategy for the function.
- Build, lead and mentor a cross-functional team of professionals.
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure alignment and effective implementation of data management and governance practices.
- Design, implement, and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and compliance.
- Establish and be responsible for data stewardship programs, ensuring clear accountability and ownership of data assets across the organization.
- Develop and lead a cross-functional data governance council or committee to drive initiatives and decision-making.
- Implement and supervise processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data.
- Develop and manage data quality metrics and reporting mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry standards.
- Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure data governance practices meet their needs.
- Communicate effectively with executive leadership, providing regular updates on data management and governance initiatives and their impact on the business.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in data management and governance. Find opportunities for leveraging new technologies and methodologies to enhance data governance capabilities.
To thrive in this role, you have
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Math, Statistics or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in data management and governance roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
- Solid understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and data security principles.
- Proficiency in data management tools and technologies (e.g., data cataloging, metadata management, data lineage).
- Experience with regulatory compliance related to data privacy and protection.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to actively engage and influence partners at all levels.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop impactful teams.
- Certifications in data management and governance programs.
- Experience in a mid-sized company or in establishing a new data management and governance function from the ground up.
