Homebase is looking for an experienced Director of Infrastructure Engineering who thrives on developing teams of software engineers and sets them up for maximum success. You will play a key role in defining how our engineering practice operates and how our engineers grow their skill sets.

The Job

As Director, Infrastructure Engineering, reporting to the CTO, you will own recruiting, onboarding, mentoring and measuring your team and their output, and you will work with the larger engineering management team to evangelize the department internally and externally in spoken and written forms. You will recruit excellent candidates for our team and help to bring them on board. You will bring great people management instincts to the team and focus on our engineer’s professional growth. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong infrastructure engineering and management background – with a drive to get results. They will enjoy working cross-functionally with our team of web and mobile engineers as well as with our product and design teams to deliver great software to production. They will have a reputation as a strong evangelist and a trusted advocate for team members they have managed in the past. 

Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the growth of our infrastructure engineering organization
  • Lead, grow, and mentor a team of talented engineers and managers
  • As a key member of the engineering management team, bring new ideas about organizational development, scaling teams, improving processes etc.
  • You may also serve as a Lead - with a focus on delivering prioritized work from build to release, or with focus on research, feasibility and architecting solutions 
  • Play a key role in the recruitment of new engineering candidates

Must-Have: 

  • 5+ years managing engineers in a department that is at least 20 people overall
  • 5+ years of experience with financial, payments or fraud detection systems 
  • 4+ years managing 4 or more people at the same time
  • 5+ years recruiting and closing engineering candidates
  • Demonstrated record of mentoring and coaching engineers to improve their skills and level up
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills
  • Clear and deep understanding of how to build engineering teams that build high-quality products
