23andMe is looking for an experienced research leader passionate about leveraging user insights to guide business and product strategy. The Director, Consumer Insights will oversee our small but mighty team of market and user researchers as they support the research needs of the Marketing and Product teams, focusing on areas such as user experience, brand awareness, customer satisfaction, and customer segmentation. The Director, Consumer Insights will report to the Sr. Director of Planning and Insights, and interact with a broad range of 23andMe functions and senior executives.

What You’ll Do
- Lead, manage, and coach a team of researchers to deliver high-quality research and insights to support business growth and decision-making
- Work with stakeholders to understand priorities and define research questions to build a research roadmap that addresses key knowledge gaps about prospective and current 23andMe consumers
- Oversee projects from initial concept and hypothesis development, through designing the research approach, synthesizing and analyzing data, and collaborating with key stakeholders for effective operationalization
- Utilize quantitative and qualitative analyses to generate insights that guide business decisions, such as product development, customer segmentation and prioritization, pricing strategies, and go-to-market plans
- Identify third-party market research vendors to perform data collection for non-customer studies and manage project-based agency relationships
- Effectively communicate research findings across the organization so that findings are properly incorporated into the overall business strategy, marketing strategy, and the 23andMe experience
- Partner with the team to set strategy, vision, and mission that serve to elevate consumer insights and align the team with the strategic needs of the organization
- Offer a strong voice and opinion in discussions with peers and executives; be a thought partner rather than a data reporter
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research, some of which in a fast-paced consumer or health tech company
- Previous experience leading a high-performing research team of at least three people in a fast-paced environment
- building, growing, and managing teams of market and/or user researchers
- overseeing the day-to-day operations of a team including adherence to process, managing budget, setting roadmap, and defining team OKRs
- scaling the function by setting strategy, developing operational structures, and building culture
- Deep experience working cross-functionally to influence company-wide strategy using research and insights
- Experience partnering with analytics, data science, and business intelligence to triangulate research results with other sources of data
- Clear and concise communication of actionable insights and recommendations via written and in-person presentations to various constituencies from peers to executive-level
- Outstanding storytelling skills and an innate ability to see the forest and the trees
- Demonstrated ability to connect research to meaningful business impact
- Strong working knowledge of statistical research methods such as regression analysis and segmentation
- A strong ability to source and manage external suppliers - deep knowledge of specific vendor capabilities, ability to make good trade-offs, and hold your suppliers to a high standard
- Highly organized, has great attention to detail, and thrives handling multiple projects at once
- Self-starter who excels in a fast-paced team environment
- Player/coach who is not afraid to get their hands dirty and support project work as needed
23andMe is a hybrid work environment. The ability to work 3 days onsite (Tuesday-Thursday) in our Sunnyvale, CA office is required.

Pay Transparency
23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
