The Core Platform team facilitates millions of API requests running the Core API Platform for Reddit. Core Platform is responsible for the APIs that build our listings, enabling posts, comments, and many more features and data models that are the sources of truth for Reddit.

The mission of the Core Platform team is to develop and maintain a set of core backend systems that many product development teams can leverage. These systems provide clear interfaces, low latencies, and high uptime so that product engineers can focus on the product.

Some of our present and future challenges include:

  • Service layers that Reddit rests upon. Define and maintain the core data models that Reddit uses, and allow all the different parts of Reddit to work smoothly together at scale.
  • Designing an architecture that is performant, stable, secure, and low cost.
  • Build foundational services that will define the future architecture of Reddit; handling millions of requests per second for tens of millions of users around the world every day

As a Backend Engineer on this team, you’ll be a critical part of the team building some of the most central systems at Reddit. You’ll draw on your technical expertise to ensure these systems have high uptime and strong performance while working with others to build a roadmap to match the needs of an ever growing engineering organization. You’ll build and scale the exciting features and services needed to create real-time experiences and spark connections, which will fuel the next wave of Reddit’s growth. Your work will directly impact hundreds of millions of users around the world. Join us and help build the future of Reddit!
